SMC Celebrates National Home Care Month

Arlington, November 3, 2008 – Sibley Medical Center Home Care celebrates National Home Care month in November to recognize the many ways that health care workers help elderly, disabled and chronically ill individuals stay independent and make a difference in the lives they touch each day.

There are many reasons to support the good work of home care providers during November. Seventy-seven million baby boomers will soon be joining the retiree force, taxing an already stressed health care delivery system. Home health care is regarded as the most viable solution for providing long-term care to this country’s growing elderly population and can be a great alternative to assisted living and nursing homes! It is also a great time to recognize the family members, friends, and professional caregivers who spend time caring for older adults and adults with disabilities.

“Being a caregiver can be a very rewarding experience but it can also be very demanding both physically and emotionally. Our employees are providing excellent care for our patients every day,” said Teresa Messner, Home Care Manager for Sibley Medical Center Home Care. “We are extremely proud of each and every member of our staff and of the compassionate contributions they provide to patients and their families.”
